Dunlap can be defined as small, yet large ... compact, yet sprawling, but its best description may simply be one-of-a-kind.

Because of its ideal location northwest of Peoria, Dunlap has rapidly become a prime site for new home construction in recent years in an array of subdivisions that cater to a vast range of personal preferences and prices. Because of this expansion throughout the lush Peoria County countryside, rarely will buyers find anywhere else a greater selection of quality and value than here.

While the town of Dunlap is actually quite small with just under 1,000 residents, the miles of roads in and around this quiet community make it seem much bigger. Dunlap residents can actually enjoy the best of both worlds with outstanding rural and urban amenities from which to choose. Its downtown is a couple of blocks of small, unique, friendly businesses that get to know their customers personally, and the local library has shelves packed with light or heavy reading, depending on the individual patron's need. Nearby is metropolitan Peoria with its seemingly endless shopping selection and cultural opportunities.

The trailhead for the Rock Island Trail is located on the south east corner of the Dunlap area. People jog and bike for miles under the tree lined canopy.

Enrollment in Dunlap Community School District 323 actually exceeds the town's population because of the wider school district boundaries, but it's hard to find a high school with more community pride and spirit than here. At the large high school campus and new middle school campus excellent educational and recreational opportunities are offered.
